Tip 1Dry Out Soap Between Uses: The added moisturizing oils means that natural soap dissolves more rapidly in water. As a result, it is best to remove your soap from pools of water in the shower. Invest in a soap dish that offers drainage (e.g. slotted or with a rack), or just remove the soap from the shower & keep it in a place that will dry thoroughly before using again.
A soap saver pouch is a great way to use soap including the small slivers. Place the bar of soap in a pouch & pull the drawstring closed. Use it like a wash cloth & then hang it up to dry when finished. Check out our "Accessories" page for these items. |
Tip 2Cut Soap Into Smaller Bars & Store in Dry, Well-Ventilated Areas: Handmade soap will last longer if you cut the bar of soap into smaller bars. This lets you only use the bar of soap that you need during your showers, which prolongs overall use. If you live in a humid area, you can wrap the remaining bars of soap in wax paper and place in the refrigerator to protected it from the humidity and prolongs use.
Alternatively, soaps can be stored in a covered container that allows air circulation, and in a cool, dry location. If you prefer to store soaps in plastic, be sure to add ventilation to the container to allow the soaps to breathe. Handmade soaps are high in natural glycerin and vegetable oils; non-ventilated storage may result in "weepy" or rancid soap. Keep handmade products out of direct sunlight. Assuming proper storage, your handmade soap and body should last from 6 to 12 months. |
Tip 3Fragrances & Sensitive Skin: While our products have been tested on humans, we strongly suggest you carefully read the labels before using our products. While our products are safe for children, we ask that soaps and other products that have added fragrance not be used on children younger than 2 years old. We do carry several products with no fragrance or essential oils, which are great for those with sensitive skin and children.
If storing several soaps, it is best to store similar scents together. Sample categories include: lavender, citrus, spice, eucalyptus, fruit, and floral. The essential and fragrance oils in handmade soaps vary in dominance and mellow over time & at different rates. Storing a peppermint (dominant) with a citrus (mild) scent may result in the citrus scent taking on a peppermint aroma. Event under the best conditions, citrus scents tend to mellow more quickly than other scents. |
